Parlez-vous Froglegs

Hey, friends! Here is the blog I hope to keep during my studies in France. I'll try to post once a week, probably Saturday (since I'm in class during the week and Sunday is spent with family).

Here I am setting up my blogspot...

Thank you Mrs. Zamora for helping me create this blog. And thanks Em for the name; I love the alliteration.

Here's where I'll be all summer!!

Brittany is in northwest France, next to Normandy. I'll be there with the IU Honors Program, studying French! Sweet, huh? Madame Hayden (to whom I will be eternally grateful for telling me to go for this!!) recommended I apply for the program back in the fall. A huge group of third year French students took a college level entrance exam so that we could be ranked in our command of the language. And guess who got in?! Then all I had to do was take hours and hours to complete their extensive application and convince IU that I was a great fit for the program. It's whatever.

I am among twenty-two students going to St-Brieuc, Brittany. We each have our own host family, but we'll be together during the week to study French grammar, linguistics, culture, and communication. And I may join the Program's choir. It's that or theatre. We'll see...

Oh, and another small detail: besides emailing my family and updating this blog, I don't get to use English. Look forward to stories of how I humiliate myself with my early attempts to communicate. Past students always say that by the end of the summer, they don't want to use English and often forget how once they are back in the States. The first few weeks are rough, though, as I adjust to the culture and my brain switches to French-mode. Here we go...

  2. So exiting! The more you use it, the better you'll be at it. It'll be hard, as learned from experience, but you'll really appreciate it in the end. Good luck!
